Inter and Manchester United join race for Christopher Nkunku

The future of Christopher Nkunku at Chelsea is increasingly uncertain as more European giants, including Inter Milan and Manchester United, enter the race for the French forward. Nkunku, who joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £53 million, has struggled for form and consistent game time under multiple managers at Stamford Bridge.

According to renowned journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter Milan are seriously considering a move for Nkunku. Under new coach Cristian Chivu, the Nerazzurri are looking to revamp their attacking line, and Nkunku is viewed as a strong candidate to strengthen their frontline.

“Inter Milan are planning a tactical overhaul and see Nkunku as a versatile attacking asset,” reported Di Marzio in a recent update.

Bayern Munich’s interest reignited

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have also renewed their interest in Nkunku. According to Sport Bild, Bayern have been in talks with the player’s representatives. The serious injury to star midfielder Jamal Musiala has forced the Bavarians to look for reinforcements, and Nkunku is now high on their wishlist.

“Talks have restarted after Musiala’s injury. Nkunku is viewed as a technically skilled and positionally flexible option,” reported Sport Bild.

Manchester United also in contact

Manchester United have reportedly opened informal talks with Nkunku’s camp. United are evaluating forward options as they restructure their attacking strategy this summer. While no official bid has been placed, sources indicate that a £35 million package could be considered.

Nkunku had a challenging 2023/24 season with Chelsea. Despite appearing in 27 Premier League matches, he started in only 9 and scored just 3 goals. Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca recently defended the French striker, stating he “deserves more playing time.”

Nkunku featured in five of Chelsea’s six games at the FIFA Club World Cup, starting in three of them, but is still expected to depart this summer.

Latest updates: A report from The Times confirms Chelsea are open to offloading Nkunku for financial flexibility, especially as they pursue multiple incoming signings.

With competition heating up, Nkunku’s next destination may come down to playing time guarantees and European competition participation. All eyes are now on whether Inter, Bayern, or United will make the first official move.
